Contemplative Practice: Finding Balance and Energy Everyday

Our outer self undoubtedly reflects our inner state of being. When I feel balanced and whole, you can see it in the brightness of my eyes, the clarity of my choices, and the circumstances of my life. When I am not in balance, the opposite is true, and life feels a little muddier. The end goal of this idea is to cultivate practices that balance our inner and outer lives.

I find clarity through my morning writing routine. I appreciate these notes that guide my daily decisions. I spend a little time writing by hand while enjoying a smoothie and coffee. I light a candle, feel the sun on my face, take deep breaths, and ask myself, “What does Elizabeth's soul want her to know today?”Don’t get me wrong; this writing practice requires patience and trust, like waiting for a great friend to arrive. (She said she was coming, and you know she will turn up.)

Once you practice this morning routine regularly, it will become easier. Sometimes, I write about my dream from the night before or something interesting I read, hoping it will guide me to something meaningful, and it usually does. Starting with gratitude also helps to get things going. Here’s a short piece from my morning notes (which I like to write in the third person).

Elizabeth is very grateful for her home, family, and all the precious moments in her life. In taking care of herself, she unknowingly cares for many others.

Notice the pauses and subtle changes happening. Allow her awareness to concentrate on these moments, as doing so can help her re-group.

To be “the observer” of the vibration she is creating in her physical body. When she is in balance, pure intelligence is available— like the entire universe is in alignment with her.”

Join me, trust and affirm:

My outer self relies deeply on my inner state of being.

In my balanced state, I am pure energy.
