Art as a Muse
I went to Golden, Colorado last weekend. To recall the feeling as we drove up from Santa Fe is like trying to create the definition of autumn— a magical mix of crisp cool mountain air, brilliant golden fields of aspens nestled against a backdrop of deep purple mountains crowned in ethereal white peaks. For me, the scenery created a soulful vibe that this season always brings. To take time and step out of my day-to-day coupled with the excitement of learning a new technique (from the comfort of an old friend) was a tonic to soothe my soul.
My dear friend Dianna Fritzler whom I have known for 30 years is the most positive exuberant human being. She also has a knack for being a fabulous artist and teacher. I attended her cold wax art workshop.
For three days, eleven of us immersed ourselves in this cold wax technique, ‘losing track of time’ in our creating. My paintings above are a mixture of cold wax and oil paint, applying with a palate and roller. No paintbrush. Through each application of wax, layers form and earlier colors ‘reveal’. This technique really resonates and I plan to play more with this medium. Let me hear if you like any of these and if so, which are your favorites.
This artist retreat was a beautiful reset. I encourage you to take a break and soak in this soulful autumn season.
