Art as a Muse

Driving up from Santa Fe felt like trying to capture autumn. The cool mountain air mixed with the vibrant golden aspen fields against the deep purple mountains created a magical scene. Stepping away from my daily routine and learning a new technique with an old friend was a peaceful escape for me.

My dear friend Dianna Fritzler whom I have known for 30 years is the most positive exuberant human being. She also has a knack for being a fabulous artist and teacher. I attended her cold wax art workshop.

For three days, eleven of us immersed ourselves in the cold wax technique, completely losing track of time as we created. The paintings I’ve shared above are a blend of cold wax and oil paint, applied using a palette and roller instead of a paintbrush. With each layer of wax, new colors emerge, revealing the earlier layers beneath. This technique resonates deeply with me, and I plan to experiment more with this medium. I would love to hear your thoughts—do any of these resonate with you, and if so, which are your favorites?

This artist retreat provided a beautiful reset for me. I encourage you to take a break and fully enjoy this soulful autumn season.
