For me, yoga is much more than the time spent on the mat. Twenty years ago when I came to know yoga, I went to a weekly Wednesday morning class. I quickly began to notice that Wednesdays were a good day for me.

Our final theme to conclude our month of love is to recognize that love is EVERYWHERE.

In honor of today, St. Valentine’s Day, our topic is the love you deserve. Last week it was all about, “in giving, we receive.” This week, the act of RECEIVING is our focus. Often giving may seem easier than receiving.

A Month of Love. 4 week series: Part 1 (Self-Love)

Today, marks February 1st and St. Valentines Day is around the corner. We like to think of February as the month of LOVE.

I use the word affirmation interchangeably with sankalpa; a vow, a commitment to myself and a request to guide my choices.

While I have always known this special seed (bead) holds sacredness— I didn’t know it is believed to provide good support for those who are constantly on the move and sleep in a variety of places. This natural bead is claimed to create a cocoon made of your own energy. The belief stems from holy men and women who were constantly moving, traditionally never supposed to rest their heads in the same place twice.

You already have it .Embracing the new year with optimism is a beautiful idea, however it isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Who doesn’t want to be more compassionate and kind, to eat healthier, to find the sacred in every day? And, yet why is it so hard to act on these feelings? These positive ‘way of being’ that never seem to be within reach?

If we look back in history, crystals and gemstones have held a revered place in our lives. They have been found in the tombs of ancient Egypt, adorning the breastplates of warriors, and sparkling in the crowns of sovereignty.

Driving across west Texas, the rain finally stops and the sun comes out, brightening up an enormous Texas blue sky. The familiar ten hour drive gives the perspective of distance and as the time and landscape change I begin to let go of our  home in Texas and transition to our simple adobe in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

About fourteen years ago, we drove through a tiny strip of a town chiseled out of red rocks in the middle of no where, and vowed we would return one day. Last week our family took that trip back to Moab, UT.

This post is in honor of my dad. Today marks his birthday and the one year anniversary of his death. Besides being a good dad and a professor who loved to teach, he was passionate for books and reading. He passed this love on to many, me included. This image is of some books from his library.

The other day I had a fun synchronistic happening. My friend Jodie King (check out her inspirational art) is creating a painting for us. We met to chat about this idea which then lead to talking about art in general.

She recently created some magic in her life and we thought it would be fun to share this experience with our readers. Her manifestation of a dream she held for herself is a testimony.
