The Writing Process, Do You Need a Guide?
I believe we are all entangled at some level and invested in each other’s lives.
In a quiet meditation this morning, tears appear from heartfelt gratitude that unexpectedly arrives. A surreal visualization —the women in my life who have shown up to guide and support me through my writing journey came forward. Their faces are clear, and I call out their names— Jane, Joss, Lucy, Lam, Amy, and more. Encouraging pen-to-paper, conceptual dreaming, meticulous detail, and publishing as bottom-line business guides. From my humble 1998 beginnings of contributing a column to a London Yoga magazine to two publishers, their editors, and an agent later. The last two and a half decades of my writing journey appeared in my mind’s eye.
More than I saw in myself
All of these women saw something in me. Perhaps more than I saw in myself. I recall sitting in my publisher’s office and being referred to as an author. I looked around the room to see who she was referring to— it was me. :) That was in 2002.
Fast-forward twenty-two years, and I still call back the feeling. I am nervous that I may say the “wrong” thing, but in that conference room, a bigger presence takes hold of me and flows through me. I feel strongly confident and deeply passionate about my first book’s subject matter— my journey with our son’s illness and recovery.
To offer you support and knowledge
In this morning’s precious moment, a tsunami of gratitude showed up. I felt seen. Through the highs and lows of this process; true-grit passion, determination, and persistence in writing and publishing — these women were able to see the potential in me.
I want to offer you the same support and knowledge. Let’s write your story.
