Clear the Clutter for 2021: Learn The Power of an Affirmation
The kids were all home for the holidays. We spent a lot of time outdoors; skiing, hiking and enjoying the fresh mountain air. Cooking, eating and moving energy through our body were on repeat this past two weeks. While I have loved it all, the other day I told our daughter Allie I felt overwhelmed with our kitchen/utility room countertops. It seemed as though every time I cleared up, the countertop became crowded again. It gave me a chaotic-no-sense-of-order feeling.
Create Order
Allie nudged me (to what we refer to) as to ‘Kondo’ the space. Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up is a guide we love. Over the past few months, Allie had focused on clearing the clutter from her apartment and was fresh with the ‘what sparks joy mindset’.
She and I started almost immediately. Several hours past, as we lost track of time knee-deep into discarding what didn’t spark joy and re-organizing the kitchen/utility space. A fresh new sense of order was being created— I felt so excited and happy. I told Allie, “It feels like I just lost 10 lbs!” The countertops were clear and everything was organized into categories. Even our dog Milly now has her own drawer.
To Cut Through the Clutter of our Lives
I believe affirmations go hand-in-hand with ‘clear the clutter’ concept. To use an affirmation is about getting organized, just instead of kitchen countertops, it’s with our intentions and words — it’s about saying more with less. An affirmation is a short, clear, positive statement that helps you discern where you want to place your energies. To create clarity, form intention, and guide you. These short positive statements ask you to cut through the clutter of your life and focus your mind on one essential truth at a time.
